THE OBJECTIVE OF THE EVENT HAS EXPANDED TO PROMOTE TOTAL WELLNESS THROUGH FOOD AND FITNESS.
WHY FOOD AND EXERCISE? They promote total wellness - our body, our land, our community. On average, the food on your dining room table has traveled 1200 miles from where it was produced. Local food is fresher, more nutritious, AND better tasting! Local food reduces the use of energy consumed through transportation. Buying local food supports your neighbors, your local community and your local economy. At the festival this year we will offer great locally grown foods to tantalize your taste buds and to support our local farmers, AND fitness and general health education.
Running/walking is a great way to build your strength, stamina, and general health to be a productive citizen in your community. The 5K "Run/Walk in the Prairie" and Kids runs will kick off the day of wellness at the Edible Harvest Festival at 9-10:30AM at the Prairie Crossing Charter School. 5K entrance fee is $20, the Kids Mile (14 & under) is $10, and the Kids 50 & 100 and 1/2 miles meter races are $5 through Oct. 3.
